In Derbyshire ~ 2022

Wednesday 29 June – Tuesday 5 July

You are invited to join us in Derbyshire.

We have booked a small Methodist Chapel in the village of Youlgreave, in hope that Covid regulations will not this time affect our event.

Our annual theme which started at Pentecost 2020 is Water and where better to explore this subject than Derbyshire?

A landscape shaped by water

– the steep dales, mysterious caverns and disappearing rivers

– an economy based on water (or the lack of it)

 – an incredible industrial heritage along the Derwent valley

– with customs rejoicing in water and all that implies for

community life.

Youlgreave is set in the limestone area of Derbyshire – a rich village which grew, not so much from farming but from the wealth of lead mining and associated industries in Bradford Dale.  Lead mining tragically ended in the 1930’s with a collapsed mine disaster – now farming presents a much more tranquil scene and the open landscape with numerous paths invite visitors of all ages to enjoy the area.

The Methodist Chapel is small and in a lovely setting in the heart of the village with space outside to enjoy in the glorious June weather we shall experience.

They were delighted to renew a booking which had to be cancelled in 2020 and I am sure will give us a warm welcome.

During the week, as well as exploring some of the dales and their rivers, we hope to see some of the acclaimed Derbyshire well dressings, but the calendar for 2022 has not yet been published.

The most convenient travel hub is Derby from where there are buses and trains to Matlock and Bakewell. Youlgreave is 30 m. north of Derby and more detailed directions will be sent later to those applying.
